Abstract

167,711. Schat, A. F. Feb. 19, 1920. Da.vits.-A lifeboat is suspended from slueing- davits by cables coupled with the davits in such a manner that the weight of the boat acting through the cables tends to force the boat outboard. Each fall 3 passes over a guide-pulley 4 on the davit and a guide pulley 5 on the deck and thence round a drum 6 to the drum 7 of a winch provided with a brake 9. The drum 6 is rotatably mounted on a member 10 secured to the davit, and is adapted to be secured thereto when operating the davit by a pin 15 inserted in one of a series of holes formed partly in the member 10 and partly in the drum 6. In a modification, the boat fall is passed round a pulley connected to a crank-pin on a disc secured to the davit so that the davit may be forced outboard by hauling in the boat fall.
