Davits; chocks; boat raising and lowering gear.-Quadrant davits are mounted on an inclined track so that they tend to swing to an outboard position whether or not a boat is hang ing from them. The davit 1 has the flanged quadrant 2 rolling on the inclined track 5 having projections 46 which take into recesses on the quadrant to prevent slipping. The falls pass over a pulley 16 on a standard 53 and a pulley 10 on the davit head and round the lower block 11, the standing end being made fast to the davit head. The pin of the lower fall block takes into a slot 20 in an extension of the casing of the upper pulley, so that the davit is automatically brought inboard when the falls are recovered. If the ship lists, the davits on the high side can be hauled out by a topping-list 22 carried round a pulley 24. When the davit has passed the pulley 24, this rope acts as a brake. When the boat is inboard, the keel is engaged by a rotatable recessed member 32, and the gunwale by a hook 39 on the support 38. The member 32 can be operated by link-work from a lever 37 to release the boat by the forward movement of a claw 34. The fall drums and topping- lift drums are loosely mounted on a common shaft operated by a motor. Either of the drums can be clutched to the driving-shaft as required, and brake surfaces are provided having straps and operating- cords.
