Transporting boats across ship decks.-Boats a are stowed on cradles or are provided with rollers a<1> which run on rails b athwartship, the cradles being traversed by attaching them to an endless cable c passing round horizontal pulleys c<1>, Fig. 1, and round a driving-pulley c<3> operated in either direction by worm gear. The rope is also passed round rollers c<2> provide 1 with a tensioning-device c<8>. When a boat is to be moved, gripe chains a<2> are cast off and it is attached to the cable by means of a tool e having a forked end e<1> and a pin e<3>. In a modification, the boats are mounted on collapsible chocks and a single trolly or cradle runs on the rails. This trolly is provided with chocks which can be moved down by means of gear so that when one boat is being launched, the trolly with its chocks down can be moved by the cable beneath one of the other boats, the chocks can be raised and the stationary chocks lowered, and the boat can be conveyed across the deck to the davits.
