Transporting bouts across ship's deck; davits; chocks.-Boats are carried athwart ship from the chocks to an outboard position by a conveyer comprising chains d arranged around sprocketwheels e which are operated by worm gear. The chains are guided by athwart ship tracks c, and are provided with a series of rings d<2> which pass between the tracks c and engage fore-and-aft hooks on the boats. When outboard, the boats are engaged with the falls l and are lowered to the water by horizontally-pivoted davits n, which are luffed outboard by a ball q<1> on the fall engaging a recess n<5> in the davit. The falls are led to an ordinary winch provided with a band brake. The outboard swing of the davits is limited by a #Àshaped lever p engaging arms n<1> on the davit, and the davit is locked in this position by a hooked arm q taking under the beams b<1> of the framing. The boats are stowed on chocks comprising vertically-guided transverse beams s which are lowered to leave the boats suspended from the chains d by link-work comprising arms t, bell-crank levers u, and horizontally guided rods u<1> operated from a single lever. Additional boats may be brought into position under the conveyer by means of trollies k running on tracks k<1>. In a modification, the conveyer is adapted to handle an additional row of boats stowed athwart ship between the sprocket-wheels e.
