Davits ; boat raising and l o w e r i n g gear.- Davits D pivoted at E are connected by links H to a traveller frame K which moves on rails on an athwartship gantry slightly overhanging the ship's side. The frame K is traversed to luff the davit outboard by gear comprising chains'L kept in contact with chainwheels N on the frame by jockey-wheels M, M<1>. The wheels N are carried at the end of a shaft 0 rotated by worm gear P. The raising and lowering gear for the boat F comprises falls G wound on drums R on the frame and connected by a shaft S, which can be clutched when necessary to a winch W. The lowering is controlled by a band brake Z on the countershaft Y when the winch has been thrown out of gea@
