Abstract

Boat-lowering gear.-Relates to boat-lowering apparatus to enable the boats to be carried on a lower deck instead of the top deck of a vessel, this enables one davit to be supported from above the boat so that the distance between the axes of the davits is less than the length of the boat, which can cross the axis of that davit when swung out. The stern davit post 5 carries an arm 6 and is stepped in a bracket 7 on the ship's side. The bow davit 9 carries an arm 10 and turns in bearings 11, 12 on the upper decks. The davit arms are always kept parallel as the davits are provided with short arms 14, 15 connected by a link 16. The davits are operated from a hand-wheel 21 connected up by worm gearing with a quadrant 17 on the davit 5. The falls are led back along the davit arms to sheaves 22, and thence to a hoisting-drum 23.
