Aug. 25, 1916 Jib cranes.-The lowering tackle used with luffing davits is provided with means for compensating for the lowering of the davit head and also for the listing of the vessel. In the arrangement shown indicating the adjustable pulley 16 on the normal or even keel position, the standing part of the lowering fall 22 passes over a pulley 23 on the davit, around a pulley 11 about two sevenths up the davit and around the pulley 16 to a fixed point 24 on the davit. The number of falls between the pulleys 11 and 16 is twice the number of falls in the boat tackle. The pulley 16 is mounted on a pivoted arm 13 having two holes 18 through which a pin 19 may be passed into one or other of the holes 20<d>, the arm being connected by bevel gearing to the corresponding arm on the other davit. In the event of the vessel taking a backward list. the pulley 16 is moved to one of the outboard positions and for a forward list the pulley is moved to one of the inboard positions. Instead of the standing part of the fall, the hauling part may be used or the top block may be suspended by a separate cable. In a modification using a davit of the rolling quadrant type, the adjustable pulley is mounted on a curved rail. To compensate for the list of the ship in davit tackle fitted with known types of gear for compensating for the lowering of the davit head, alternative points of attachment or alternative fixed or adjustable pulleys are arranged on the framework.
