Abstract

1357490 Davits ASCARGO SA 18 Aug 1972 [19 May 1972] 38729/72 Heading B7S A ship's davit comprises an arm 2 pivoted about a horizontal axis 14, a crosshead 3 pivoted to the top of the arm 2, a link 4 which forms a parallelogram with the arm 2 and crosshead 3 so that the crosshead 3 is maintained in a horizontal position as the arm 2 is swung outwardly, and a pair of falls 19, 20 which pass over sheaves 10, 12 at the extremities of the crosshead 3. The arm 2 is swung outwardly by a link 8 connected to a screw spindle 7 operated by crank handle 9. The boat 1 is supported by a wedge shaped pallet 6 which is connected at each end to falls 19, 20 by a sling 21 and ring 22. When inboard the pallet 6 rests on a wedge shaped pad 5 and is retained in position by locking pins 27. The boat 1 is also secured by hooks 17, 18. To lower the boat 1 the pins 27 and hooks 17, 18 are removed, the arms 2 are swung outwardly by handle 9 and the falls 19, 20 are lowered until the boat 1 is floating as shown in Fig. 1. In a modification (Fig. 3) the link 4 is replaced by wires 28 rove over sheaves 29, 30 to eye plates 31 on the deck to maintain the crosshead 3 in a horizontal position.
