Abstract
24,030. Hamilton, J. Dec. 2. Boat raising and lowering gear.-Relates to rocking davits and their operating-gear, which may be employed in conjunction with the means for lifting a boat out of its chocks described in Specification No. 12,494, A.D. 1899. The davits are hinged to the ship's side at A', and are preferably curved as shown. At the head of each is mounted a pulley B, round which is passed a cord C. This cord passes over guide-pulleys on the davit, and is attached to the side of the ship. To its upper end is attached the upper block of the hoisting-tackle, so that, when the boat hangs in the davits, they automatically swing outwards under the control of tackles H, H, arranged as shown in Fig. 2. These tackles also serve for hauling the davits and boat inboard. Tackles J are used to haul out the davits, should the vessel have too much list to allow of their swinging out automatically. Pawls K engage with racks K', and prevent the davits from swinging inwards should the vessel roll. They also prevent them from swinging inwards when the hoisting- tackles are hauled on. These racks may be formed on the slotted castings in which the davits swing. A second pulley B<1> at the davit head serves as a guide for the hoisting-tackle.
