Abstract

338,686. Gladstone, W. D. Oct. 19, 1929. Davits.-Luffing davits comprise a pair of arms 14, 15 pivoted to a base-plate 11 secured to the deck the upper ends of the levers, being pivoted to a two-armed tumbler lever 18. The falls 22 pass from a. winch (not shown) through a recess 26 in the rear arm of the tumbler lever and over fair leads 20, 19 on the forward arm. Under the. action of the fall, the davit and boat move to the outward position as shown, the inboard movement being secured by a block on the fall engaging with a stop on the davit head whilst the fall is shifted from the recess 26 by an auxiliary rope. In a modification the inboard and outboard movements of the davit is positively effected by the employment of a pair of ropes attached to the davit and led back to auxiliary drums on the winch.
