Abstract
2439. Welin, A. Jan. 29. Boat raising and lowering gear.-The davit arm a carries a strap b provided with a stud d, on which is mounted a bollard e fast with a wormwheel f. On the worm spindle h is mounted a hand-lever l provided with a pawl k, which operates a ratchet-wheel j fast with the worm g. The falls are led down the davits, over the bollard and then round cleats n. By turning the bollard, the ship's boat is lifted off the chocks. The boat is supported when the davits are luffed &c. by turning the falls round cleats n, and the boat is lowered by allowing the falls to run out round the cleat and bollard.
