Abstract

10,541. Johnson, G. April 30, 1910, [Convention date]. Life-boats.-Relates to a life-boat having floats 13 at the sides to prevent capsizing. One of the floats 13 on each side of the boat rests in brackets 15, and is retained by hinged clamping-arms 16 engaging the gunwale, so that it can be detached and thrown out as a life-buoy. When the clamping-arms 16 are unhooked and opened out, lever extensions thereon raise the float sufficiently to enable it to be readily disengaged. Fixed to the gunwale are railings 11, which have central upwardly off-set portions 12, adapted to co-operate with pins 22 for operating the oars. On the underside of the boat near the keel is a railing 19, which is secured by brackets 18, and is adapted to be grasped in the event of the boat capsizing. Auxiliary oars 20 are shaped to conform to the contour of the boat, and are retained by hooks 21.
