Davits.-A davit for ship's boats comprises a pivoted supporting-arm 2 which can be luffed inboard and outboard by the pinion 12 and segmental rack 6, the boat being carried by the end of an arm 4 pivoted to the luffing-arm 2 and to a tension rod 3, as shown, and the boat travelling in an approximately straight line 10<Î> when the parts are operated. When the arm 2 is in the vertical position, the pivots 5, 7, 8, 9 of the several members lie in the same vertical plane. The falls 15. 24 are operated by winches, guide-pulleys 16, 17 being provided.
