Abstract

9859. McDougall, A., and McDougall, W. S. April 25. Stowing boats.-Boats are housed in nests of two, a third boat carried in davits being supported immediately above. The lower of the two nested boats 1, 2 has its thwarts removably mounted by means of dovetails 4<a> fitting into brackets 5, or by means of staples 12 secured to hinged brackets 13 and passing through holes in the thwarts and then secured by a pin. Cork fenders secured along the sides are provided with rollers 9 mounted on spring brackets 10 to prevent chafing. The third boat is supported by a framework comprising cross-beams 14 provided with chocks 15 and held up by stanchions 16. The outboard pair of stanchions are pivoted to the deck and are retained by diagonal stays 18, so that, by removing bolts 19, the outboard structure collapses, thus leaving the boat hanging in the falls and clearing the way for launching the nested boats 2.
