Boat raising and lowering gear; davits; chocks. -Relates to gear in which the davits are luffed by sliding bars operated by the winch for the boat-supporting cable and consists in providing the davits with a clamp which grips the gunwale of the boat when on the chocks under the influence of the tension in the cable. The davits are pivoted in the plane of the boarding and are additionally supported in the outboard position by pivoted bars. The boat 1, Fig. 1, rests on cleats 2 between davits 3 which are pivoted at 4 and slotted at 7 so that the part 6 may slide in the slot and support the davit in the outboard position. Driven by the winch gear is a pinion 23 which gears with a rack 24 on a slide-rod 25, the latter when moved outward pushes the davit past its dead centre, the boat being lifted off its chocks. At the same time, the winch pays out the cable until the davit is full out, and finally the boat is lowered. The top of each davit carries a journal 9, Fig. 3, from which depend two lugs 10 carrying a pulley 11, and on which also is a cramp or brake 12 in proximity to or contact with the gunwale 13. The cable attached to a ring 14 on the boat passes over the pulley 11, thence over guide-pulleys 16, 17 to the winch or winches. When the boat is on the chocks, the tension on the cable pulls the cramp 12 into contact with the gunwale 13 and holds the boat firmly. The boarding is recessed to take the davit when slung inboard.
