Boat-lowering gear.- A boat is pushed away from the ship's side when being lowered by two cranked bars each having a horizontal part a adapted to be slid in and out beneath the deck by a rack and pinion and a vertical part e carrying a pulley a' engaging with the davit lowering ropes n. Racks on the horizontal parts of the bars engage with cogged wheels on a shaft i carrying a sliding pinion which may be placed in and out of engagement with a gear wheel of the davit winch. The upright parts of the bars may pass through slots in the dock.
