Abstract

230,215. Holmes, R. F. Jan. 11, 1924. Davits.-Luffing davits B<1>, Fig. 4, pivoted to a bracket b secured to the side of the ship or deckhouse A<1> are provided with segmental slots b<5> in forgings B<2> attached to the davits. Rails D<1> working on rollers g', g<4> mounted in guides P<1> arranged on either side of a central slot n in a forwardly-extending platform N<1>, which serves both as a guide for the davit and as a support for the boat, carry at their forward ends pins d on which are threaded rollers d<1> which engage with the slots b<1> in the davit. The racks are operated to luff the davit in and outboard by means of worm gear mounted on a shaft E which is mounted in journals bridging the rack, the shafts carrying pinions K<1> which gear with the rack.
