Abstract

332,279. Marstrander, W. T. April 17, 1929. Boat-launching gear comprises overhead rails m, Fig. 1. supported by stanchions n, the port and starboard rails being connected by athwart ship section m<1>. The boats are provided with trollies running on the rails m and the launched boat is deflected bysuitable switches from the rail m' to an outboard wire p supported by a boom r, the boat, before it reaches the surface of the water, being disengaged from the wire by the action of wedges s on the trollies. Arrangements are described. for staying the boom r and for balancing it against the boom on the opposite side of the ship. The lifeboats are provided with central sliding, sectional covers b, Fig. 6, overlapping in the centre. The chocks e, Fig. 2, are supported by wedges e<1> which can be separated thus allowing the chock e to fall and free the boat by the action of screw and bevel gear f, connected up to a common fore. and-aft operating shaft.
