Abstract

304,095. Devienne, E. May 21, 1928. Bow-facing oars. - Bow-facing oar arrangement comprises a central pillar with which the blade handles are universally jointed. The bearing member 1 is adjustably carried on a pillar 2 and has opposite sockets 5, 6 in which are spigots 7, 8 carrying sockets 9, 10. To these sockets are pivoted at 11, 13 the gears 12, 14. For guiding the oars a metallic rod or tube 15 is adjustably supported on each gunwale. Each blade 16 is adapted to turn on a short shaft 17 at the ends of the oar and to a butt on a stop member 18. The stop may be made flexible. A sliding horse-shoe member movable from in-board may be, used to lock the blade for reversing. In place of the vertical pillar 2 a curved support or a rod fixed at each side of the boat and curved to be connected at their inner ends may be used. The pivots 7, 8 could be fitted directly on a turntable disc and be provided with a ball bearing.
