Abstract

637,861. Rowing boats. THOMAS, A. B. Jan. 29, 1947, No. 2785. [Class 114] In a boat with or without a sliding seat and propelled by oars or the like .the rowlocks are mounted at points which can move relatively to the boat independently of the position of the seat. A rowlock a is supported by an arm b that pivots about a pin c in a bracket a attached to the side e of the boat. A swivel pin g attached to the rowlock a is free to rotate in the arm b and pinned to one end of an arm f which is linked through a tie-rod h and pins i and j to a bracket k also attached to the boat side e. Variation of the angle of the rowlock a due to the movement of the oar therein causes the rowlock to move in a radial path about the pin c and thereby increase the distance travelled by the blade of the oar. In a modification, the rowlock a is secured at a definite angle in the horizontal plane to the arm b and links f and h omitted. Specification 513,510 is referred to in the Provisional Specification.
