Abstract

342,445. Bow facing oars. DE VIENNE, E., 6, Rue Jean de Tournes, Lyons, France. Dec. 4, 1929, No. 37109. Convention date, Oct. 2, 1929. [Class 114.] In a bow-facing oar of the kind where the oar and handle members are coupled by pin and slot mechanism, the line joining the pivots is at an angle to the side of the boat. An oar member 4 pivots on a pin 5 and a handle member 2 pivots on a pin 3, an extension rod 11 on the oar 4 engaging with a free collar 9 on the handle portion 11. Alternatively, a pin and slot may be employed. The line joining the pivots 3, 5 is inclined to the side of the boat 1. For adjusting the depth of immersion of the blade the oar rod 4 carries the blade through a bracket and adjusting studs 13. For purposes of transport where the parts require to be folded, a stay rod 16 is employed which is attached at its inner end by means of hooks to the side of the boat thereby fixing the position of the base plate member 14 which carries at its inner end a peg 15 fitting into a hole in the bracket on the gunwale.
