Abstract

742,128. Sailing boats. WALTER, E. April 29, 1953, No. 11853/53. Class 115. In a sailing boat having two sails 11, 12, of equal shape, size and material fastened together at the mast head, each sail is fixed by its foreleech to a slide 17, 18 capable of sliding on opposite sides of the mast 13 along guide-rails 19, 20 joined together to form a rigid system, the guide-rails being equi-distant from the mast head along their entire length. The guide-rail system has pulleys 23, 24 at the forward and after ends over which an endless rope 25 is passed connecting the slides 17, 18 with each other, each slide having attached thereto a pullrope 26 or 27 reaching back to the helmsman's seat. The guide-rail system may be rigidly attached to the mast 13 or may be mounted thereon by means of a bush which allows rotation of the system about the mast.
