Abstract

165,122. Schat, A. P. Dec. 16, 1919. Transporting boats and rafts across ship's deck. -In launching gear in which boats or rafts are lowered in succession from a single pair of davits, the power required to transport the inboard boat into position beneath the davits, or to hoist the same as a preliminary to lowering, is derived from the momentum of the descending boat or raft. The fall 4 controlling the boat &c. which is being lowered is passed round a drum on a shaft 7 and then runs to a bollard 6. Secured on the shaft 7 is a second drum 10, attached to which is one end of a rope 11 which passes round a sheave 16 on the carriage 14 of an inboard boat 13, and is then secured to the deck at 12. The fall in running out thus causes the boat to be moved into position beneath the davits.
