Abstract

Davits.-Davits which are constructed to slide outboard automatically under the action of gravity are provided with tackle attached to the davit post beneath the ship's rail for controlling the sliding motion of the davits. According to one form, an arm 6 is carried by the lower part of the davit 1, the post of which works in inclined bearings in a frame 2. The lowering-tackle 13 passes over a roller 16 secured to the davit, over a roller 10 mounted on the deck, and is finally wound round the drum of a winch 17 after being threaded through a pulley 9 which is attached by a link 7 to the arm 6. The release of the winch thus allows the davits to slide out board prior to a lowering motion of the boat being effected. In modifications, the tackle for controlling the davits is separate from the lowering-gear and the arm 6 may be replaced by a disk controlled by a band brake. The invention is also applied to davits provided with rollers which work on helical tracks. inclined outboard.
