Abstract

122,372. Smith, G. C. Aug. 21, 1918. Boat-lowering gear; davits.-A boat suspended in davit arms adapted to be swung out by the weight of the boat is pulled out over the ship's side when the ship is inclined by a rope hooked to the boat and passing around a drum on the capstan. The rope 9 wound on a drum 12 is so hooked to the side of the boat 1 that the hook falls away when the boat has been lowered over the ship's side. The drum is thrown in and out of engagement with the capstan 4 by a foot-operated clutch 13.
