Abstract

121,242. Moss, W. E. March 22, 1918. Boat raising and lowering gear.-To ensure that a boat shall be lowered on an approximately even keel, the falls at each end of the boat are provided with brake mechanism actuated by a slight inclination of the boat. The brake shoes 1, adapted to engage the falls 14 where they wrap round the pulleys 15, are mounted on levers 6 pivoted to the lower blocks 5. The ends 6<a> of the levers 6, where they engage members 8 arranged between the ends of the boat and the points of suspension, are curved so as to bring the brakes into operation when the boat is inclined to a predetermined amount. The brakes may be actuated by weights, or hand-gear may be fitted. Where the lower blocks are connected by a spar, the inclination of the spar may be used to operate the brake.
