Abstract

Hooks. - Relates to boatreleasing gear of the kind in which a pair of hooks are operated positively and simultaneously by levers from control mechanism in the boat to release the boat when waterborne. In order to remove strain from the control mechanism when the pull on the hook is not vertical, each hook 4 pivoted at 12 on a standard 6 in the end of the boat is provided with a tail 17 which bears against a stop- 18 on the standard. The hooks are released when the boat is waterborne by hand-actuated gear comprising levers 13 pivoted on the standards and connected with the hooks by links 15, the levers 13 for the hooks fone and aft of the boat being connected by chains 22, 23, running through tubes in the bottom of the boat. The fore and aft hooks may face in the same direction, but if they face towards one another the levers 13 are provided with lugs 19 engaging recesses 20 in the hooks to prevent accidental release. The levers 13 operate the links 15 with lost motion at 16 so that the initial movement of the levers 13 disengages the lugs 19 from the recesses 20. A tumbler 11 pivoted at 12 and extending across the mouth of the hook prevents release of the shackle before the hook has turned through a considerable angle.
