Abstract
446,119. Boat raising and lowering gear. PAINE, H. SCOTT-, c/o British Power Boat Co., Hythe, Southampton. Jan. 9, 1935, No. 786. [Class 115] [See also Group XXX] A lifting-sling, more especially applicable to the raising and lowering of boats, is formed with a resiliently-extensible flexible link to absorb sudden shocks. Figs. 1 and 2 show two loops of wire rope 10 passing through the suspension ring 11 and secured at their ends by cross-pins 24 to rubber links 27 which are secured in turn to fixed points 15 on the hull of the boat. The ropes pass round guide pulleys 18 carried by casings pivotally mounted in laminated forked members 21 riveted or bolted to the hull. The pulley framing provides a stop 28 co-operating with the rubber-buffered member 31 on the rope to limit the extension and provide an emergency support should the rubber link break. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the rubber links 27 are anchored to frame members 35 and short cables 38 pass through metal-bushed holes in the deck and carry eyes 39 for attachment of the ropes 10. Provision against undue stretching may either be provided for by the members 40 or by contact of the members 31, 37. The mechanism shown in Fig. 6 may be used with two loops 10 arranged similarly to those of Fig. 1 or with a single loop having points of attachment on the longitudinal axis of the boat.
