Abstract

1391745 Zinc alloys INSTITUTE PO METALOZNANIE I TECHNOLOGIA NA METALITE 15 Oct 1973 [16 Oct 1972] 48051/73 Heading C7A An alloy composition comprises by weight:- 0.05 to 0.5% iron 0.0005 to 0.5% nitrogen the balance being zinc together with incidental elements and impurities. In preferred embodiments, the alloy may also contain up to 0.015% lead, up to 0.007% copper and up to 0.015% cadmium. Nitrogen is incorporated in the alloy by saturation of an appropriate melt with the gas and solidification under an atmosphere of nitrogen. This alloy exhibits a higher temperature of onset of recrystallization than one not containing nitrogen which thus enables the alloy to be used as a mechanically loadable structural component with improved melt properties at normal temperatures.
