Abstract

An iron-calcium alloy to be added to a melt of iron or steel in a ladle comprises 15 to 40% Ca and 5 to 55% each of one or more elements selected from the group consisting of Si, Al and Mn, 0 to 5% Ni, the remainder being Fe with unavoidable impurities amounting to 4 to 60% of the alloy. The alloy may also contain one or more alkali metals, alkaline earth metals other than Ca and rare earth metals in an amount not exceeding one-fifth of the content of Ca.
