Abstract

1320041 Spray carburetters; treating I.C. engine charge INGENIEURBœRO FUR ANGEWANDTE PHYSIK UND CHEMIE DIPL.- ING LUDWIG LANG 1 July 1970 [3 July 1969 6 Aug 1969 10 Nov 1969] 31846/70 Heading F1B The butterfly throttle valve 10 of a carburetter has an enlargement 11, 12, 14 at the rim facing the fuel jets, e.g. idling and slow-running jets, and bores 15 in the enlargement. Air is supplied to the bore, aligned with the carburetter duct 20, of a plate 30 to atomise any fuel condensed on the duct wall. The portion a of the duct 20 may be smooth and the portion b knurled. In the horizontal idling position of the valve 10 and up to an adjustment angle of 55 degrees the clearance (s), Fig.4 (not shown), with the duct 20 may be such as to provide in use of the carburetter transonic or sonic velocity between the valve and duct. A valve 110 on the valve 10 may be arranged to open on sudden throttle valve closure. The flow of air through the passage 39 opening tangentially to the bore of the plate 30 may be controlled by a rotatable sleeve valve (73), Figs.14 to 16 (not shown), or a curved plate (40), Figs.17 to 19 (not shown), co-operating with an opening (38) in the plate leading to the passage. The sleeve valve or curved plate are linked to the throttle valve shaft 23 and are shaped to provide the desired air flow at a given throttle valve position. Frusto-conical members 100, 104 are mounted co-axially in the plate bore and the member 100 has flow apertures in its supporting flange. The member 104 defines a liquid fuel collecting pocket opening to the flow passage through the member by openings 108.
