Abstract
1406842 Spray carburetters; treating I C engine charges INGENIBURBURO FUR ANGEWANDTE PHYSIK UND CHEMIE DIPL. ING LUDWIG LANG 15 Aug 1972 [16 Aug 1971] 38000/72 Addition to 1320041 Heading F1B The Parent case, Specification 1320041 describes, and claims in Claim 2, a carburetter, for an I.C. engine, including a throttle butterfly valve having an enlargement at the rim of the valve facing fuel jets of the carburetter bores forward in the enlargement and a secondary air supply device arranged downstream of the throttle valve and which includes a nozzle converging in the direction of mixture flow through the carburetter; this Specification describes a modification which consists in the bores in the enlargement of the valve rim having a rectangular cross-section and the internal surface of the nozzle having a smooth-surfaced entry section followed by a section having a roughened surface. The rim of the throttle valve 111 is thickened on that side which faces the idling and change-over jets and slits 112 are formed in the thickened portion. The thickened portion subtends an included angle of 30 degrees at the centre of the valve and the slits are 0.8 to 1.0 mm wide, so that the cross-sectional area of the two slits is 12 to 18% of the area of the thickened portion. When the throttle valve is in the closed position the clearances Sw and Si are preferably 0.05 to 0.08 mm. The nozzle 113 is clamped between the downstream face of the carburetter and the upstream end of the inlet pipe 25. The axial length h of the nozzle is equal to the diameter D of the passage through the carburetter. The cross-sectional area FA of the exit is 10 to 20% less than the area FE of the entry section. The axial length hw of the roughened section is half the length h and the depth hr of the roughening is 0.5 to 0.8 mm. when the diameter D is 28 to 40 mm.
