Abstract

1311192 Window with insulated sash R R HEIKEL 3 April 1970 15838/70 Heading E1J A window includes a metal main frame 1 attachable to a wall 2 and a metal sash 5 carrying at least one window pane attached to the frame 1 preferably by hinges on the lower rail so that in the closed condition of the window the openings in the frame and sash coincide, together with a heat insulating strip 10 of closed cell foam rubber, foam plastics or wood fitted between the frame and sash around the entire window at least the exposed surfaces of the strip 10 being covered by a water and air impervious material 10a, 10b. The strip 10 is sealingly attached to the frame 1 and the glazing stop 7 of the sash is provided with ribs 11 and/or grooves 12 to make the insulation more effective. When a double glazing unit is used the inner edges of the spacer strip 8c and the inner edges of the glazing stops 6, 7 are in alignment with the inner edge of the frame 1. As shown the main frame 1 is heat-insulated from the wall 2 by a closed cell plastics strip 3 which is covered by water- and air-impervious material 4. Both the main frame and sash may be of steel or light metal.
