Abstract

1319814 Window and door frames DYNAMIT NOBEL AG 22 April 1970 [22 April 1969] 19386/70 Heading E1J Fixed main or wing frames of an openable window or door or a fixed glazing frame are built of hollow metal e.g. steel or aluminium profile of square, rectangular, round or oval cross section continuously sheathed in a thermoplastics material e.g. soft PVC, the profile having permanently attached on each of a pair of opposite sides at least one continuous projection, one projection being a connecting projection 4 or an abutment stop 12 and the other being an abutment stop 12 or a glazing stop 19 provided that both projections are abutment stops; wherein the connecting projection 14 has first and second flanges with transverse end portions 7, 8 directed towards each other, the abutment stop 12 is formed by a flange at right angles to the side of the profile and provided with an undercut groove 14 near its outer end and is associated with an additional groove 16 in the side of the shell adjacent the flange member and on the same side of it as the undercut groove, and the glazing stop 19 is formed by a flange at right angles to the side of the profile and has a saw-tooth ribbed profiling on one side which in use faces glazing. A channel member 33 may be fixed to the profile 18 and receive a snap fit glazing strip 34 having a toothed surface for keying putty 39. The members 33, 46 and double glazing spacer 36 may be of metal or plastics and a resilient cover strip 40 may be provided for the putty on the weather side. Resilient sealing strips 28, 29, 30 e.g. of neoprene may be provided between the main and wing frames. The main frame is secured to the wall 21 by metal Z members 22 of which the web part 24 may be adjustable in length and a L-shaped member 26 of metal or plastics engaging a connecting projection 4 of the profile is secured in the plaster 25. A resilient packing 27 is provided between the outer face of the frame and the wall. For the sill member of the fixed frame the inner connecting member is cut to seat on the inner sill member while the outer connecting member supports a zinc, aluminium or plastics sheet outer sill of Z form (Fig. 4 not shown). Figs. 5, 6 also not shown show two main frames or two fixed glazing frames joined together by fillets engaging between the portions 7, 8 of connecting projections on each of the frames 1 and surrounding or embracing fixed plasticssheathed hollow metal post members. A further profile 49, Fig. 7 not shown, e.g. of hard PVC, may be stuck or screwed to a fixed glazing frame 47 (Fig. 7 not shown) and carry sealing strips on surfaces on that profile abutted by the connecting projections of a similar fixed glazing frame 47. Two sash frames formed of profiles 51 (Fig. 8) bearing glazing stops 19, channel member 33 and a glazing strip 34 may be provided with modified abutment members 52, 53 of soft PVC sealing strips being insertable into grooves 54.
