Abstract

130,832. North British Diesel Engine Works, Ltd., and Maclagan, J. C. M. Sept. 23, 1918. Cylinders receiving liquid fuel.-In order to avoid retardation of combustion by the piston-rod in a double-acting Diesel or other internal-combustion engine, the piston or the piston-rod is formed with an enlargement which is perforated for the passage of the flame. Fig. 2 shows the piston-rod formed with a double conical enlargement A<3> having a perforation E forming a chamber into which the fuel is injected by the device E<1>. The piston is formed in two parts A<1>, A<2>, the lower of which is secured to the tail of the piston-rod by a nut B<1>. The upper part A<1> is secured to the lower part A<2> by studs D, the nuts of which are contained in recesses D<2>.
