Abstract

129,330. Macgregor, P., and Balfour A. Oct. 19, 1917. Alloys.-A steel suitable for cutting-tools and as a substitute for high-speed steel contains 1 to 6 per cent of nickel, 1 to 3.5 per cent of carbon. and 6 to 20 per cent of chromium. Up to about 2 per cent of one or more other metals such as tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten, vanadium, zirconium, uranium, cobalt, &c., may be added, except that, in the case of cobalt, the amount used is preferably 0.9 per cent or less.
