Abstract

1288106 Water heater APPLICATION DES GAZ 28 Aug 1970 [20 Oct 1969] 41420/70 Heading F4A In a water heater, Fig. 3, the bottom wall 1 of the water tank 5 is heated by a burner 16 operating as shown in Fig. 1. The slightly divergent jet of gas 3 from nozzle 2 is projected perpendicularly towards bottom wall 1, entraining air as indicated by the arrows in Fig. 1, and is deflected radially outwards against the wall from the centre point of impact A. The speed of the gas jet is high enough to ensure that when lit by pilot jet 20 the flame forms an annular sheet 4 and cannot propagate back to jet region 3. The controller 19 switches the gas supply completely on or off in response to a thermostat sensitive to the water temperature. Cold feedwater enters tank 5 at the bottom through pipe 15 and hot water is drawn off from the top through pipe 16. Tank 5 is connected to casing 6 and supporting straps 12 by rods (11). Casing 6 may be insulated on the inside by corrugated asbestos sheet (7) overlain by thin aluminium sheet 8.
