Abstract

A gas operable water heater comprises control means arranged so that in use gas is first supplied to the pilot burner 6 and when this is ignited gas is then supplied to the main burner 10. With this arrangement gas is not supplied to the pilot burner until the heater is brought into use. An upstream gas valve 5 and ignition means 7 are controlled by an actuator 2 responsive to the flow of water in heat exchanger 11. <IMAGE>
