Abstract
1286187 Space heaters AEROIL PRODUCTS CO Inc 19 Nov 1970 55141/70 Headings F4S and F4W In a portable space heater comprising a cylindrical combustion chamber 24 surrounded by a vertical duct 26 to define therebetween an annular passage through which air to be heated passes, the hot combustion gases exit through a perforated cylindrical screen member 33 which becomes incandescent and serves as a source of radiant heat. A protective grille 34 surrounds the screen member. At the top of duct 26 is a grille 28 above which is a horizontal baffle 30 arranged to deflect the heated rising air leaving the annular passage outwardly and downwardly into the space to be heated. Both the bottom of the annular air passage and the combustion chamber communicate with a horizontal duct 20 which is supplied with air by a fan 22. Radial vanes 23a give the air entering the combustion chamber 24 a turbulent motion. The chamber is fired by an oil burner 25 ignited by electrodes 29. Fuel for the burner is stored in a tank 27. In a modified embodiment (Fig. 5 not shown) a Venturi tube (40) serving as a mixing chamber is disposed over a fuel nozzle (42) within the horizontal air duct (20); the top of the tube communicates with the combustion chamber.
