Abstract
1281841 Steam irons M ZUCCARELLO 18 Feb 1970 [25 Feb 1969] 7684/70 Heading D1A In a steam iron comprising an electric heating element 3 in contact with a sole plate 2 and a water reservoir 6 and a steam chamber 10 above the reservoir and communicating through an opening 12 with the reservoir, through a duct 11 with the atmosphere and through a duct 16 with one or more apertures 17 in the sole plate 2, a manual control valve is provided in the steam chamber having two opposed valve elements 14 and 20 which selectively close one of the ducts 11 and 16 and permit passage of steam through the other duct. A spring 15 maintains the element 14 in engagement with a shoulder in the steam chamber or a step 26 engages below an aperture 9 in the handle to maintain the element 20 in engagement with the end of the tube 19 containing the duct 16. The valve member 13 may have grooves or apertures to permit the passage of steam.
