Abstract

The electric steam iron has a heating element (15) which is arranged in an evaporation chamber (10) in the soleplate (1) of the iron. Via a metering valve connected to a water reservoir, the evaporation chamber (10) is supplied with water which evaporates in the evaporation chamber (10) when the soleplate (1) of the iron is heated up. Via passages (37), the evaporation chamber (10) is connected to the steam-outlet chamber (36) which has steam-outlet openings (11) distributed symmetrically on the soleplate (1) of the iron. The ratio of the entire surface area of the steam-outlet openings (11) to the entire surface area of the passages (37) lies in a range between 0.6 and 1, but preferably closer to 1.
