Abstract

690,542. Hand-irons. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd. Jan. 11. 1952. [Jan. 18, 1951] No. 923/52. Class 138 (ii). An electrically heated steam iron has an instantaneous steam generating chamber 7 with a cover plate 17, and a boiler cover 28 of relatively low thermal conductivity integrally cast in the cover plate. The cover plate 17 is of a material having a high thermal conductivity and has a number of depending ribs Fig. 2, (not shown) defining a tortuous passage to one or more steam discharge ports 8. The boiler cover 28 may be made of stainless steel and preferably is made as thin as possible to reduce heat transfer to a water reservoir 9. An internally threaded bushing 29 is brazed or welded to the cover 28, and receives an apertured port member 30a which clamps the reservoir 9 to the bushing 29. A water flow control member 32 and fill tube 12 as 'described in Specification 684,617 are provided.
