Abstract
1489897 Steam irons GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 11 Dec 1974 [13 Dec 1973] 53580/74 Heading D1A An electric steam iron has two separate steam generating and discharging systems, the first comprising a drip feed valve 26, a flash boiler 24 in the soleplate and passages 34 leading to ports 12 and the second comprising a manual pump fed soleplate chamber 50 and tortuous passages 54 leading to ports 58. The chamber 50 is adjacent the front of the heating element 18 and the passages 54 formed in the soleplate cover 36 pass over and extend close to the heating element. Water flow from the pressurised or unpressurised reservoir 20 is controlled by a button 28 for the drip feed valve 26 and a press knob 42 for the pump 38 which delivers through a tube 52 to the chamber 50. Valving may be provided to selectively direct the discharge from the pump 38 to either a water spray at the front of the iron or to the chamber 50.
