Abstract

1321200 Steam irons MALLEYS Ltd 17 May 1971 [19 May 1970] 15317/71 Heading D1A The steam generating chamber 25 of an electric iron directly overlies the electric heating coil 7 of the iron substantially throughout its length and communicates with a water tank 12 by an adjustable value 30/31 by which the rate of steam generation is controlled. The coil 7 is housed in a U-shaped rib 27 (Fig. 2, not shown) between two U-shaped channels 18, 19 by which steam, which enters the channels through two or more lipped openings 23 from the generator 25, is distributed to openings 20 in the sole-plate. The upper and lower plates 21, 25 of the steam generator are held together by turned down portions 26 of walls 22 on the sole-plate. The valve comprises an axially movable stem 31 with a conical or cylindrical bottom end received respectively in a plain or counterbored bore 30. The stem is moved axially by a sloping abutment 36 below a control knob 37 having legs engageable with finely toothed racks 40 to hold it in adjustment.
