Abstract
842,298. Steam irons. SUNBEAM CORPORATION. May 19, 1958 [Sept. 19, 1957], No. 16048/58. Class 138 (2). A steam iron comprises a sole plate 15 with an upwardly facing steam-generating chamber, preferably in the form of an annular chamber 42, on the upper face thereof, a steam passage 50 extending to the bottom face of the sole plate, a shell 22 enclosing the upper face of the sole plate, the shell having an opening above the chamber through which a closure cap 32 for the top of the chamber is removable. When in position the cap 32 is retained by means of a screw 34 threaded in the central passage 50. Water is introduced to the chamber 42 through tube 28, the other end of which is connected to a separate reservoir by a flexible tube. Steam generated in the chamber passes through orifice 45 to an inner annular chamber 47 and through orifice 48 to the steam passage 50. To remove incrustations formed in the concentric steam generating chamber and transmitting chamber and passage a tool having scraper blades 63, 64 (Fig. 5) and central post 60 is fitted in the chambers and passage and is rotated by means of an arm 67.
