827,695. Steam irons. ROWENTA METALLWARENFABRIK G.m.b.H. March 3, 1958 [March 2, 1957], No. 6722/58. Class 138 (2). An electric steam iron includes an adjustable valve (5, 5a) for regulating inflow of water from a reservoir (4) to a steam generating chamber (35) and a vertically guided valve-operating rod (24) within a pipe (17) through which water is supplied to the reservoir, the upper end of the rod being engaged by an eccentric (19d) disposed in the pipe on a shaft (19) that extends perpendicularly to the rod axis and has a squaresectioned portion (19c) which is engaged by the arms (20) of a leaf-spring secured to a steamtight closure cap (22) for the pipe through which the said shaft (19) extends laterally for manual operation (knob 18). As shown, the eccentric acts upon a U-shaped member 25 riveted at 24a to the valve rod top; while a spring-loaded anti-splash washer 29 of diameter somewhat less than that of pipe 17 is carried on the rod where the pipe 17 opens into the reservoir 4, and an anti-surge plate 32 is also provided.
