Abstract

1444657 Steam irons SCM CORP 24 May 1974 [1 June 1973] 23429/74 Heading D1A A sole plate 12 Fig. 3 of a steam iron has steam ports 44 and an embedded heating element 22, and two steam generating chambers both communicating with the steam ports 44 through an outlet path 42 the second chamber being separated from the first. The second chamber for generating high-velocity steam includes a tortuous passageway 50 Fig. 2 and a curved water-receiving passage 46 whereas the first chamber has a linear water-receiving passage 34 and a linear passageway 40, and produces low velocity steam. Water is introduced via a metering valve from a reservoir (not shown). The heating element is U-shaped and the first chamber lies within the U while the second chamber has a portion extending over the U.
