Abstract

1,085,220. Electrically heated steam irons. INTERFLEX A.G. Dec. 10, 1964, No. 50355/ 64. Heading D1A. A steam ironing unit comprises an electrically heated iron connected by a hose 26 to a tank 32 associated with a pump 37 controlled from a switch on the iron so that water may be delivered to the iron where it is evaporated and emerges from apertures 24 in the iron working surface. The thermostatically controlled iron has a pilot light 12 and the electric heating element 14 is mounted in the sole plate 5 which has a number of cavities 17, 18 interconnected by ducts 19 and connected by ducts 20, space 21 and ducts 22 to a space 23 from which apertures 24 lead to the exterior. Hose 26 is connected by a non-return valve 28 to cavity 18a. The pump 37 comprises valves 43, 44 and a diaphragm 46 reciprocated by a solenoid 48. The iron operates as a normal dry iron until the pump is switched on.
