Abstract
819,577. Steam irons. FERRE, J. C. Nov. 15, 1955, No. 32597/55. Class 138 (2). An electric steam iron comprises a hollow body 1 provided with at least two chambers 2, 3 in communication with one another and one of which is a superheating chamber, a longitudinal partition or central vertical wall 4 separating two of the chambers and having a passage 6 extending longitudinally therethrough communicating with one of the chambers and also, through openings 7, with the outside. As shown, the rear ends of chambers 2, 3 are connected by a small orifice 5 in the wall 4 and the rear ends of chambers 2, 3 and passage 6 are closed by a cover 8 secured in place by screws or the like. A recess 9 in the inside face of cover 8 connects the chamber 3 with the passage 6, a screw 10 provided with a very small diameter aperture 11 being screwed into the end of passage 6. Flat type heating resistances. 14 are provided, or resistances embedded in the body 1. The steam may be produced in the chamber 2 which is supplied with water through a fitting 12 and valve 13 from an external container connected to or mounted on the iron. Alternatively the iron may be fed with steam produced in an external generator. In a modification (Fig. 3, not shown), a second pair of chambers may be provided above the chambers 2, 3.
