772,095. Steaming and ironing apparatus. SOC. INDUSTRIELLE POUR LE PERFECTIONNEMENT DES APPAREILE MENAGERS S.I.P.A.M. Feb. 17, 1955, No. 4770/55. Class 138 (2). A steam iron adapted to be connected with an independent liquid tank, comprises a handle 18, a separate supporting member 28 and means 33 for connecting the member 28 and handle 18, the sole of the iron being provided with a flat ironing surface having a curved front end of small radius merging into a curved rear end of substantially larger radius, and further comprises a plurality of recesses 34, 35, 36 in the handle, each arranged to receive the connecting means 33 so as to support the iron in a plurality of inverted working positions for each one of which the flat surface of the sole has a different angularity. Water is supplied from the tank (not shown) through a flexible tube 12 including a valve 27, and a tube 10 to a steam generating chamber 9. The steam produced passes through flanged holes 8 to a superheating chamber 13 whence it flows through openings 5 in a sole plate 3. The iron has two heating resistances 22, 38 one of which includes a thermostat and indicator lamp in its circuit. The handle 18 of the iron is formed in two halves screwed together, and the recesses 34, 35, 36 are non- circular in section.
